Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Environmental/Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  1. Design and plan production of general civil work related to environmental and solid waste industry infrastructure projects within our resources business group, including planning, site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities.
  2. Prepare technical reports, memorandums and other project documents.
  3. Prepare quantity calculations, cost estimates, specifications and contract documents for public entity projects.
  4. Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  5. Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.
  6. Function as a Lead Engineer or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed.
  7. Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
  8. Perform other duties as needed.

NOTE - This role is based in HDR's Honolulu office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental or Civil Engineering related work.
  • State of Hawaii Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Understanding of State of Hawaii and City and County of Honolulu NPDES and storm water quality rules, State of Hawaii Administrative Rules related to Environmental Impact Statements or Assessments, and City and County of Honolulu grading and building permitting process.
  • Basic understanding or experience in construction, and field investigation and assessment type activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering such as AutoCad, InRoads, Siteworks, Hecras, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The expected compensation range for this position is $71,368.50 - $101,955.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
