Job Description Public Safety Officer - Student Housing TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 52 weeks
CLASSIFICATION: ESP Pay Band S
ANNUAL SALARY: $16.00 per hour
FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week; evening shift hours 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Some flexing of hours and schedule to include weekends will be required as determined by the college.

JOB SUMMARY: Public safety officers assigned to housing perform patrol functions to maintain safety and order, enforce regulations, and assist students, staff, and faculty.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Ensure campus housing security protocols are followed while developing a professional rapport with residents to recognize residents from visitors and other community members.
- Perform foot patrols of both facilities every 60 minutes; monitor building for unauthorized individuals and/or suspicious activities.
- Patrol all housing properties to ensure overall safety and security; report facility and safety hazards.
- Perform campus security services and assist with general housing processes as assigned.
- Contact emergency responders as needed acting within college procedures and training until emergency personnel arrive.
- Complete and maintain CPR/AED certification.
- Maintain a working knowledge of alarm systems and provide services as a public safety officer on other college properties as assigned.
- Serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude and demeanor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision received from the Executive Director of Safety and Compliance
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree preferred. Will consider candidates in the process of obtaining an associate's degree. One to two years of related work experience is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Self-motivated; quick learner.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and good driving record.
- Reliable with good attendance record.
- Possesses good judgment skills; moral character.
